Something we’re very excited about is Tanya Irvine’s success in becoming a LEED® AP. Tanya attended weekly audio classes and on April 6th she wrote, and passed, her 2-hour exam. She is hoping to get her feet wet on a LEED® CI project in the very near future.
LEED® for Commercial Interiors is the green benchmark for the tenant improvement market. It is a recognized system for certifying high-performance green interiors that are healthy, productive places to work; are less costly to operate and maintain; and have a reduced environmental footprint.
In 2009 we continue our long-standing commitment to sharing our knowledge. Events on the horizon so far are:
- In June 2009 – Meredith Thatcher and Tanya Irvine travel to NeoCon in Chicago to speak about the emerging global trends and technologies that will be impacting us by 2020... In their presentation www.Future.2020: Work, Worker, Workplace of the Future - Are You Ready? they interpret and dissect futurist predictions and the impact on the work, worker and workplace of 2020. Why plan so far out? This presentation will tell you why!
They also spoke at the International Facility Management Association’s World Workplace conference in Dallas last year - the handouts are posted on our Knowledge Sharing page, where you’ll also find more than two dozen other presentations.
For more information on NeoCon, “The World’s Trade Fair,” visit www.neocon.com
- In September 2009, Meredith and Tanya again deliver this popular presentation, this time at IIDEX in Toronto, Canada’s largest exposition and conference for the design, construction and management of the built environment. You can find out more at www.iidexneocon.com
October 2009 is a busy month for the CTPG presenters:
- Meredith and Tanya are at the International Facility Management Association’s World Workplace conference in Orlando. Their new presentation, Ignite Your Innovation, will give attendees the tools and knowledge to become more innovative – no matter what their role or contribution is within their organization. Innovative thinking is essential to everybody in their daily lives. But innovation is not enough – you also need to learn how to communicate your ideas. By developing your personal brand and realizing your innovative spark, you will boost your ability to be a pivotal contributor on any team and will help you stand out and your organization prosper.
- Meredith Thatcher will co-present The "How To" of IFMA Area Measurement. As the economy forces many companies to streamline their portfolios, plan for drastic downsizing or strategize a future upswing, understanding current industry planning tools is unprecedentedly critical. Two standards have now come together to speak a common language. This session will respond to the industry’s request for a “how to,” demonstrating the step-by-step process for measuring area.
- Guy Thatcher will answer the question "Is There Life After Facility Management?" Many of us seek meaning in our lives beyond our daily professional and personal routines. For five weeks in the spring of 2007, Guy Thatcher set out on a quest of self-discovery, as he trekked the Camino de Santiago, an ancient pilgrimage route in northern Spain. On his journey, he discovered beauty, fatigue, despair and joy, and forged friendships with the welcoming people he met along the way. Following this extraordinary experience, he returned home with a renewed faith in the remarkable goodness of people. This talk may be the incentive you need to follow your dream.

In April 2009, the CTPG team laced up for the MS Society's annual MS Walk. They raised an impressive $4,200 to help fight the neurological disease and fund research to find a cure for MS. A big thank-you to everyone who responded so generously to our appeal for sponsors.
A Journey of Days: Relearning Life’s Lessons on the Camino de Santiago

In 2007, Guy Thatcher embarked on a 700-kilometre walk along the camino in northern Spain, an age-old pilgrimage route walked by young and old alike for centuries. He walked the camino hoping to discover the reason for the compulsion that drove him there. The camino is different for everyone, says Guy – this book is the story of his walk.
The book is available from General Store Publishing House at http://gsph.indelta.ca; www.Chapters.indigo.ca; and www.amazon.com.
