In
2004, we developed a report on Workplace of the Future: The Current
State of Wireless for Public Works and Government Services
Canada (PWGSC). This report was designed to inform facility
managers and property managers of the capabilities, limitations
and vocabulary of wireless, in order that they can speak knowledgeably
with vendors and facility occupants, and ensure their own facilities
are ready to provide wireless services for the occupants.
Over
the course of many years, CTPG has worked with the Mohawk Council
of Akwesasne to develop a strategic facility plan for the
administrative facilities of this trans-border First Nation. In
1997, CTPG developed the functional space requirements needs analysis
and space needs optimization study for the administrative offices.
In 2001 we updated this study, incorporating the Mohawk Board
of Education, Mohawk Departments of Health Services and Community
and Social Services. In 2005 we prepared the functional requirements
for all health facilities.
In
1998, for the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico,
we conducted an independent assessment of the site-wide facilities
master planning processes currently in use at the Laboratory,
to evaluate the overall structure, policy, procedures and activities
associated with facilities planning. This national historic 43
square mile site includes over 1500 facilities, totalling over
7.8 million square feet, and a daily work force of over 12,000
people. CTPG updated the study with new recommendations in 1999
and 2000.
For
Revenue Canada Taxation, developed a strategic facilities
plan for the seven Taxation Centres across Canada, totalling approximately
2 million square feet. Included the development of interim space
and workstation standards and a formula for relating the Person-Years
allocated under the Operational Planning Framework to actual space
requirement.
For
EDS, developed a Facilities Planning Guide to support the
national implementation of Income Security Program's Client Service
Delivery Network. The Planning Guide provides a management overview,
followed by the planning and implementation process, how to achieve
functionality and quality, universal footprint planning principles
and application, workstation standards, fit-up standards, how
to calculate the space requirement and a section on transition
issues.
In
1998, Carroll Thatcher Planning Group was named an Expert Advisor
to Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC)
for Real Property Services to provide long-term accommodation
strategies, management consulting, user forecast analysis profile
and strategic portfolio planning and rationalization. We developed
the Strategic Options Analysis model that includes processes and
tools to document functional performance of physical assets. {more

For
an international workplace conference, we facilitated two-day
workshops for corporate real estate executives, including the
heads of public works for Great Britain, U.S.A., Australia, Sweden
and Holland. Based on their feedback, the method used has been
the model for workshops at future conferences.
