When
the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) decided
to expand to a new building, we led the team to plan and design
two floors, as well as providing on-going space optimization for
the nine floors of their headquarters building to accommodate
growth. We have been working with CMPA since 1987 to guide them
with strategic facility plans and on-going space planning and
design.
For
Dow's Lake Court Inc., CTPG designed a state-of-art conference
facility in their new building. The conference centre includes
a multi-level committee room which seats 62 and a multi-media
video-conferencing room for 16; both these rooms have simultaneous
translation capabilities. Other spaces within the facility include
break-out areas, a caterer's kitchen, workspace for support staff,
storage areas, and copier/fax facilities. This high-tech, executive
space was developed based on the client's objective of using the
space for their own purposes as well as being able to rent it
to building occupants and others. The total area of the conference
facility is 740 sq.m. (7965 sq.ft.) {View

For
the County of Lanark, CTPG conducted a space needs study
comprising the organizational occupants of the Main Building and
Engineering Building located in Perth, Ontario.
The
project involved an analysis of accommodations, preparation of
a detailed space equation, updating CAD files, identifying possible
space solutions, optimizing work efficiencies, and developing
layout options that best met the functional requirements of staff,
clients and visitors. Concept options were developed and reviewed
with the Executive Management team. Both buildings were reviewed
for barrier-free accessibility code compliance, and a Class D
budget estimate for the proposed recommendations was prepared.
Short and long term recommendations were developed.
For
the City of Ottawa, CTPG captured the occupants' requirements
for furniture and workstation layouts for all four floors of the
Ben Franklin Place facility. We also coordinated the furniture
move drawings and spreadsheets to include moving furniture from
other sites, from swing space within the building, from City inventory
and specifying new furniture. Finishes for the buildings were
selected, specified and documented.
CTPG
was asked by the Corporation of the Township of Lanark Highlands
to study the needs of the occupants and the ability of the Township
Hall Complex to enable staff to provide efficient services to
the public and community. The addition of a new position provided
an opportunity to revisit accommodations and optimize space utilizing
the existing building envelope. This study also included an accessibility
review of the Township Hall Complex. The deliverables included
a functional program, planning options, class 'D' construction
estimate and refurbished furniture options and cost estimates.
Leimerk
Developments asked Carroll Thatcher Planning group to assist
them with their plan to upgrade portions of the Bell Mews Plaza.
The objective was to update and upgrade the public spaces of this
office/retail facility, in order to attract new clients and tenants.
We started with the main corridors of the office portion of the
building, and due to the success of the initial project, the scope
was expanded to include the washrooms and areas within the adjacent
office tower building. {View pictures

For
the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, we planned the executive
suites and developed the functional program requirements and space
planning for the 24/7 emergency response team. We developed the
requirements for the chemical and bio-hazard laboratories in St.
Hyacinthe. In 1999 we prepared the problem definition of the space
requirement for the management of space to minimize the impact
of very rapid change.
For
New Beginnings for Youth, we converted a 9' x 47' used
transport trailer into a mobile youth centre. Objectives of the
project were to make the trailer self-sufficient, easy to set
up and make ready for moving, as the trailer rotates through the
community into areas where there is a high number of youth and
few resources. The design had to be suited to a low end budget,
and create an environment in which the youth would feel able to
set their own tone and their own rules for the use of the space
- a space which would "belong" to the youth and which
they would respect and enjoy. {View

For
Canada Post's new headquarters project, we developed data
collection methodology, established the space requirement at both
the macro and micro level (3,000 persons), provided stacking scenarios
for five stages, and provided five "what-if" reports
for concept development.
For
Natural Resources Canada, we developed functional space
standards for laboratory and lab suite space. The process included
interviews, site visits, hypothesis development, testing of the
hypothesis in existing facilities and development of final standards.
These standards were tested across two sectors; Mineral, Energy
and Technology Sector, and Geological Survey of Canada.
