Interior
Design and Space Planning Detailed Case Study
The
Bank of Canada is a federal Crown corporation, responsible
for monetary policy, central banking services, ensuring the authenticity
and supply of bank notes and administering the public debt. The
U.S. equivalent is the Federal Reserve Bank.
Since
1996, Carroll Thatcher Planning Group has been the Bank's partner
for strategic facility planning and FM processes, functional programming,
concept development, space planning, interior design and CAFM
services. We managed the project for the Head Office consolidation.
The
Bank of Canada is a visually prominent structure in Ottawa, with
historical links to banking in Canada - each project has special
requirements for maintaining the heritage of the building, accounting
for increased security, and ensuring the work environments represent
the vision of the Bank.
With
the Bank, we developed and implemented a strategy for providing
customer-focussed service and more effective management controls.
This strategy includes:
- floorplate
effectiveness studies,
- strategic
planning and generic planning concept development,
- working
with client departments as facilitators for business re-engineering,
and
- selection
and implementation of a fully-integrated Web-based CAD/CAFM
system to provide real-time reports of specific value to the
comptroller and other internal FM service clients. This system
has been operational since late 1996 and Web-based since 1998.
